What a night. Thank you to every whānau who came along to our Matariki evening. We set up hoping for a good crowd and got a great one.
The tamariki got things underway the day before, chopping vegetables for our Matariki soups. On the night the soup pots did the rounds while families planted seeds, wove harakeke (flax), rolled out Matariki playdough, made balloon animals and built aspiration waka. Then the disco started and the lights went down.
Matariki is a time to remember the year that has been and to think about the one ahead. Doing that alongside our families, away from the usual drop-offs and pick-ups, is what made the evening. The aspiration waka are up on our wall now, holding everyone’s hopes for the year to come.
